Holiday meals often include special treats. But if you’re missing teeth or wear dentures, you may not be able to eat everything you want. We don’t want you to miss out on favorite foods! Full-arch implants can give you chewing power nearly equal to what you had before losing teeth. They offer lots of other benefits too.

With this innovative procedure, it’s possible you could have a mouth full of functional new teeth in time for the holidays. Call Jia Y. Lee DDS at 909-989-5598 today to see if it’s the right treatment for you. In the meantime, check out our overview here.

How Do Full-Arch Implants Work?

These dental implants are a permanent solution for people who are missing most or all of their teeth. The procedure can be performed in one or both jaws. Your dentist places a few titanium screws, typically four, in your jawbone. Once in place, a full arch of prosthetic teeth can be attached to the implants. This gives you a smile that looks and functions like your natural teeth.

Those teeth are temporary, however. You will need to wait a few months for your jawbone to heal and fuse with the implants. During this time, you can smile and eat with the temporary denture. In the second phase of the procedure, your dentist will attach a more permanent set of teeth to the implants.

Since relatively few implants are used, the full-arch treatment typically costs less than other kinds of full-mouth implant procedures.

Advantages of Full-Arch Implants

We’ve already mentioned improved bite strength. Full-arch implants offer many other advantages over other tooth replacement options. The benefits include:

  • Appearance and Function – Full-arch implants look and function like natural teeth. You will be able to eat, speak, and smile with confidence.
  • Durability – Titanium is a very strong and durable material. Dental implants will last for decades with proper care.
  • Comfort and Convenience – Implants are fixed in the jawbone. So when replacement teeth are attached to them, they do not slip or move around like regular dentures. This makes them so comfortable to wear, you will probably forget you even have them.
  • Improved Oral Health – Full-arch implants help avoid bone loss in your jaw. You won’t get the sunken-faced look that is common with long-term use of regular dentures.

Are You a Good Candidate for Full-Arch Implants?

Full-arch implants are a good option for many people who are missing all of their teeth in one or both jaws. Because typically only four implants are used to secure new teeth, they can work well if you’ve already suffered bone loss in your jaw. Unlike other kinds of implant dentures, you may not need a bone graft before your treatment.

There are a few issues that can disqualify you from getting implants:

  • Severe Gum Disease – Gum disease can damage the jawbone, which is necessary for supporting implants.
  • Certain Medical Conditions – Medical conditions, such as diabetes and osteoporosis, can make it more difficult for implants to fuse with the jaw.
  • Smoking – Since smoking slows down the healing process, it increases the risk of implant failure.

Dr. Lee will assess you and determine if you are a good candidate for full-arch implants. If not, you may still be able to receive implants after receiving a bone graft (a procedure he performs in our office). Or mini dental implants or another implant option may work for you.
