Being exposed to dentistry when I was young. And, of course, when you’re a kid and when you go to a dentist, then this can be a frightening experience. But my dentist, at that time, he was really good. And then, I remember I was about 7 years old, and he really gave me a very, very good impression. And he played with me, he talked with me, and personally, at that time, I thought that, you know, I’d really like to be with him. So, he was kind enough to show me a little bit. And sure enough, when I slowly grew up in elementary and high school, then, of course, studies take a lot of time. And I was really interested in the biological sciences, and mathematics, and things like that.
And my aunt, at that time, she just became a dentist. And so, from time to time, I won’t say often but probably, several times in a year then, I would try to visit her. And then, back in those times, there was no technology in dentistry and so, it was pretty much straightforward. And we talked about the drilling, and extraction, and removal of the teeth. I was really interested in the way of the craft of dentistry so to speak, yeah. Of course, she showed me some of the models from the patients.
At that time, I have an interest in dentistry. It was slowly growing in terms of my interest into dentistry because, at that time, I’m contemplating to going to medical school or dentistry. My uncle, he’s an abdominal surgeon. And so, he would encourage me to go into medicine as well.
When I grew up, I have a lot of interest in arts, especially the crafting of art, in the biological science. And then if I’m good with my hands, why don’t I just combine the two together? That was the beginning of actually, my interest into dentistry.
